Sister Wives’ Meri Brown’s Most Honest Quotes About Moving Forward After Kody Brown Split: ‘Worthy Up, Sister!’

Sister Wives’ Meri Brown is focused on moving forward as a single woman after confirming her split from Kody Brown.

Meri legally married Kody in 1990, becoming his first wife. She stuck around as the Wyoming native built their plural marriage, which expanded in 1993 and 1994 with Kody’s spiritual marriages to Janelle Brown and Christine Brown, respectively.

Robyn Brown came into the group in 2010, and four years later Meri divorced Kody so he could legally wed Robyn and adopt her children from a prior marriage. While Meri remained spiritually linked to Kody for nearly another decade, she confirmed during a December 2022 episode of Sister Wives: One-on-One special that their relationship hadn’t been romantic in years.

In January 2023, Meri and Kody released a joint statement confirming their split. The news came after Christine left Kody in November 2021 and Janelle revealed in December 2022 that she and Kody had separated months prior.

The Sting of Their 30th Anniversary
Kody claimed during part 1 of the Sister Wives: One-on-One special in December 2022 that he thought about “reconciliation” after Meri gifted him her homemade Rice Krispies Treats in 2020.

Meri, however, recalled that anniversary date a little bit differently. “That’s interesting that he felt like that. Because that is also the same day that we went out on a picnic and he was saying, ‘No, you’re supposed to have been courting me,’” she remembered. “I said, ‘Kody, I’ve been waiting for you’ and he’s like, ‘I’m not coming.’”

Elsewhere in the episode, Meri recalled how Kody shifted from their first anniversary in Arizona in 2018 to their 2020 celebration.

“Our first anniversary that we had here in Flagstaff, ‘Cheers to a new beginning.’ As opposed to this last anniversary, he’s like, ‘I don’t even know why you called me Meri.’ He’s like, ‘We’re not married. We’re not acting as married,’” she claimed. “And I said to him them, ‘If that’s where we are, don’t you think we should address that publicly?’ He said, ‘No, I don’t want to address it. I don’t want that to be out there publicly because I don’t want that judgment.’”

She Fought for Intimacy
Meri revealed in the December 2022 tell-all episode that during the former couple’s 30th anniversary, she tried to get close to Kody and he allegedly denied her advances.

“After I turned off my camera, I put my arms around him. Up around his neck and I said, ‘What would you do if I just kissed you right now?’” she told host Sukanya Krishnan. “He was physically [straight like] a board. And he was backing up. A year of travel, new friends, new businesses, epic adventures, fabulous memories, and divine interventions. Their Side of the Story
Meri and Kody shared a joint Instagram statement explaining their breakup in more detail one month after part 1 of the Sister Wives: One-on-One special aired. “During this process, we are committed to kindness and respect toward each other and to all members of our family, and we are also committed to the continued healing of any and all relationships within the family so that we can move forward with forgiveness, grace, and love,” the exes wrote. “In kindness, Meri and Kody.”

Meri added in a caption that she “had many open and honest discussions” with Kody before publicly addressing their split.

“There is so much more to be told about this story, and I assure you, my truth will be told,” the California native wrote. “But for now, know that there is peace in my heart, and I hold no animosity toward Kody. I am not, and pray that I never will be, in a place where I will enjoy making, or seeing you make, rude and demeaning comments about him. … Please try to refrain from congratulating me at the break up of my marriage. I value the relationship I had, and look forward to stepping into 2023 and my future with grace, kindness and power.”

Building Up Her Life
“Building businesses. Building friendships. Building a great life,” Meri wrote via Instagram in February 2023. “All while doing whatever the hell I want.”

The reality star also shared video of herself kayaking as audio from Taylor Swift’s 2019 Billboard Women In Music Awards acceptance speech for the Woman of the Decade Award played in the background.

“And as for me, lately I’ve been focusing less on doing what they say I can’t do and more on doing whatever the hell I want,” Swift said in the clip, which prompted a smile from Meri.

Valentine’s Day Reminders

While marking her first Valentine’s Day post-split, the reality star also shared a graphic about sending love to people who are healing after a breakup, feeling “unworthy of love” and more.

Dancing With ‘Fear’
“What is it they say? If your dreams and goals don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough!” Meri captioned a May 2023 Instagram post, encouraging her followers to not “shrink and hide” from what they want in life.

“What we really need to do is learn to dance with the fear. Lean in to the feeling and emotion of fear, because it’s only when we face it and embrace it that magic happens. Lean in to the dance, learn new steps and swing to the rhythm. Lean in to your moment and live it loud and proud! You got this!” she wrote, adding her signature “Worthy Up” hashtag

Meri’s ‘Season of Change’
“This year has been a season of change for me. A time to look inward, decide what is me now, what is not anymore,” Meri wrote via Instagram in August 2023. “A time to cherish the past and the memories it holds, while also letting go and reaching for my future.”

She explained that 2023 has “been a time to part ways with all the ‘stuff’ holding me back, holding me down, and what is holding on to me, that stuff that doesn’t serve me anymore. Physical stuff, emotional stuff, all the unneeded stuff.”

Meri has used the year to “shed resentment, pain, hurt, even those same emotions of others that I’ve been carrying, that are not mine to carry.” She wrote that she is now focused on exploring “new things, new places, new people, new environments” and discovering “what is my future.”

The TV personality is ready to “create the updated version” of herself, which she acknowledged will take work. “In doing that I’m not afraid to retreat into myself at times while I learn, create, and become, all the new parts of me. For in retreating, looking inward, and making a change, that is where my best and brightest self is created.”

Meri concluded: “The one who can love fully, give insight where appropriate, inspire deeply, and have an impact on those around me who can benefit from my stories and what I have to share. THIS is my evolution.”
