Brother Defends GH's Controversial Casting - Soap Opera Digest

ABC’s lone-standing soap General Hospital has been going through a major casting shakeup after Haley Pullos vacated the role of Molly. In May 2023, the actress was arrested over charges of causing a car crash. The makers subsequently brought in Holiday Mia Kriegel to play Molly Lansing-Davis. Holiday’s episodes as Molly started airing on May 25, 2023, right after Haley’s last air date. However, on July 19, 2023, GH dropped a major bombshell on the viewers without any warning!

General Hospital announced Brooke Anne Smith as the new Molly moving forward. While all the characters and the story went on undeterred on the soap, fan reaction was quite the opposite. The GH fandom created quite an uproar on social media over the absurdity of the casting. Fans wagered that the actress hired to play Molly was far too old to pass off as the on-screen character. While, the fans in no way meant any age shaming for Brooke Anne Smith. They surely had the issue that the actress does not justify the character.

General Hospital Star Brooke Anne Smith’s Brother Urges Fans To Give Her A Chance
General Hospital fans voiced that there is a 15-year age difference between the actress and the character she is supposed to play on screen. Thus, negatively impacting the inevitability of the character. In light of the uproar, Brooke Anne’s brother, Mark Smith, took to his Facebook account to defend his sister and urged fans to give her a chance. In a General Hospital Fan Group on Facebook, Mark announced that Brooke is a permanent recast. “Original Molly is not coming back,” he claimed.

He then went on to address all the outrage over Brooke and Molly’s age difference on General Hospital. Mark stated that fans are having an issue with the age because Brook’e real age is public knowledge. Perhaps indicating that his sister looks much younger than her actual age. Echoing the same sentiment, Mark pointed that she looks extremely young in real life. So much so that it’s “quite freaky, actually.” He then shared that Brooke played 16-year-old high school student on the show Awkward when she was actually 30!

Mark concluded his post by requesting General Hospital fans to give Brooke a chance. As it is always difficult to fill someone’s shoes who has been an integral part of a show for a long time. Well, considering that Mark claims Brooke is here to stay, fans will have no choice but to give Brooke a fighting chance to prove her mettle. So we might as well all keep an open mind about it. However, the soap has made no formal announcement about how “permanent” this recast is. So stay tuned to TV Season & Spoilers for more General Hospital updates on the matter.
