Kody Brown wasn’t completely unpopular in the early seasons of the Sister Wives show, but he seems to have taken a dark turn and TLC fans think they know why. At least, they present theories. Notably, some of them don’t hold all the water needed to call it fact, but, they are interesting to look at.

Season 18 brought an even angrier man to TLC than in Season 17. When Christine Brown departed, the TLC show revealed that Janelle Brown became the next target of the patriarch’s rage. In one confessional, he claimed that he would become the “devil” his family believes he is. Fans could believe it because he seemed knotted with rage all the time.
Kody Brown also talked about his demons which fans long ago decided seem to perch on his shoulders. Over the years, the occasional thread on social media talked about the possibility that he uses steroids. Of course, nobody knows for sure if he does use them, but his ugly moods seem to suggest that something is wrong. And nobody believes it’s because a wife he claimed he didn’t love left him.

Some people think that a combination of drinking beer and steroid use could cause instability and mood swings. And yes, despite claiming alcohol’s off the table, reports of the cast drinking have been published in the past. In 2022, a TLC fan spotted Robyn Brown and her husband out and about in Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. During a meal, he ordered himself a beer. And a few weeks ago, a photo revealed that possibly Robyn and Kody filled a shopping cart with the beverage.
On Reddit, some critics of Kody Brown wondered what type of beer he was buying. While many people might buy and drink beer, the fact that it seems like the non-alcoholic family drinks sparks some criticism. In between seasons, almost anything about the Brown family holds the attention of TLC fans. As one of them pointed out: “The great SW debate of 2023 – is this beer in the shopping cart?”

Many Sister Wives fans think that the dark side of Robyn’s husband is exacerbated by drinking beer. One conversation came after subtitles on screen seemed to show Janelle Brown calling her former spiritual husband “an alcoholic.” Mind you, captions are not always accurate. The OP said:

Some commenters felt that the comment about Kody Brown was taken out of context. But others thought it might be possible.
- My husband and I thought the exact same thing, you’re not crazy-you didn’t take it out of context and he IS puffy.
- Interestingly one of his kids made a video and called out his big belly in an old photo and said idk, it’s probably from Beer.

- As an alcoholic is recovery now, he might have a drinking problem (hidden away in the McMansion with all of Sobyn’s purchases), I think he’s more like on HGH or steroids. My husband walked into the room and took one look at him and called that. Said he acts and thinks just like all those types of people, especially with his angry and grandiosity- 6 pack and, etc). So aggressive and scowling!
- This is my theory…steroids and/or testosterone. But I think alcohol is also part of the mix. He has been spiraling for quite a while. He reminds me of a family member of mine that I suspect uses steroids and alcohol…very jittery and aggressive and grandiose.
